“You know what, Justin? Your kids know that they have three adults that love them very much. That would do anything to make their lives easier. I’m leaving them here with two of those people. And I’m taking my son because he doesn’t deserve to be resented for existing.”

“I don’t resent him! Fucking Christ. I’m sorry, okay? Just stay. Don’t leave. They need you here with them. It’ll hurt them if you go.” He was going to play the guilt card. He didn’t want her to leave. “I’ll go. I don’t want to but I can’t have you leaving our kids like this because you’re mad at me. It’s not right.”

"You do resent him. You’ve been resenting him since we moved and I’m done, Justin." she shifted her bag up onto her back and headed to go pick up Jay.

She threw Jay’s clothes into the bag. “You know what Justin? I don’t need this. You can do what you want now. You can take your fucking kids and do whatever you want, you can go back to Earth if you want because apparently you don’t want Jay to be your problem.” she zipped the bag shut. “Get away from me.”

“Oh, oh, so you’re just going to leave them because you’re pissed off? Because they’re my kids? I’m sure that’ll make them feel real good. Abi, he’s not a problem. I just need to fucking figure out this life and not a single one of you is helping me adjust in any way. I need your help.”

“You know what? Fine.” Abigail threw open the closet and began jerking clothes out of it and throwing them on the bed. “If he’s such a fucking burden to you, I’ll take him off your hands.” her nostrils flared and she pulled a duffel bag out of the closet, throwing it on the bed and shoving the clothes into it. She headed to the kid’s room to get his clothes.

“What are you doing?” He asked, rolling his eyes. “Don’t be so dramatic, Abigail. Where do you even think you’re going to go with him?” he asked, following her down the hall. “You can’t just leave with him. I didn’t…eugh, I didn’t mean he was a burden. It just kinda came out. I’m just frustrated!”

“I think you just need to suck it up for a bit, Hammer.” Abigail said. “We made the choice to come here. You had plenty of opportunity to think about this. What do you want to do? Do you want to move home? Because Jay can’t do that so we’d be breaking up the family.”

“All that kid has been since he was born is a burden on this family. It’s not like I could say no to you because that’d make me look like an ass.”

“And youre somebody here.” Abigail snapped back. “Youre a father. You do the important task of raising our frikkin children.” Abigail could hear the volume on the rv being raised in the other room.

“I did that back home too. You try sitting at home doing nothing that you enjoy and take care of a teenager, toddler, and infant and see how happy you are. I bet you’d lose it, too.”

“Excuse me?” Abigail said, dropping her tablet to the side. “I didn’t decide to have a baby on my own. I told you I was pregnant, and we talked about it before I even told Phil so that if we decided we didn’t want another child in the house, there was plenty of time to turn back.” her nostrils flared and she pulled herself up to her full height, squaring her shoulders. “He’s an infant. He didn’t choose to have breathing issues Justin.”

“No but you went and had sex and got pregnant and sure, we talked about it but it’s not like we thought it was going to be completely life changing. I have no life here. I have nothing. I’m glad you all are able to adapt so easy but I can’t, okay?” He crossed his arms. “No, he didn’t but that doesn’t make my life any easier.”

Abigail looked like she was going to hit him. “I’m glad this is all about you being bored and not about him needing to breathe. Real fucking classy, Hammer.” she said

“It is easy for you. None of us ask you to work that long. That’s just your job. And we didn’t even move here to take better care of the kids. The only reason we even moved here is because you decided to have another baby who thought it would be great if he couldn’t breathe on Earth and make us uphaul our lives and move to a foreign planet.”

“It’s not that I won’t. I can’t, besides what I learned during the war and that was reading, I can’t speak it. Somebody has to be here to watch the kids. This isn’t working for me, Abi. I’m tired of you not listening to me and even trying to understand what I’m going through. It’s easy for you here. You kept your job. You know everything about this place.” He said, moving closer to her. “Are you even paying attention to me?”

"Of course I’m paying attention." she huffed. "I work fourteen hour days. I don’t have time to pander to things you want to do all the time. And you have no idea what my life is like if you think this is easy for me.” she snapped, finally looking up from her emails. “You get to stay home with the kids. The kids that we moved here to take better care of. I can’t even see them for more than an hour or two a day, and that’s only when I get out of work early enough.” she said. “Jacob’s stringing full sentences together and I didn’t even know that for days because I didn’t get to see my kids because I work all the damn time to keep food on the frikkin table.”

Justin groaned and slammed his book shut, standing up and storming into the bedroom. He was frustrated with everything. The entire planet. They had weird foods and weird languages and it was hot all the time and it made him miserable. He never had anything to do which was tough for a man who worked almost every single day in his life, and if he wasn’t working, he was doing something. He hated having to sit around and be useless. It wasn’t fair. He slammed the door shut and looked at Abi on the bed. “I can’t take it anymore. Living here is awful and mind numbing. I need something. I can’t continue sitting on my ass doing nothing. It’s driving me insane. Literally insane, Abigail. I’m losing my mind.”

"Why don’t you get a job?" she asked, furiously typing away on her tablet. She worked long days to support them, Phil had gotten a job as well, but it was only part time in a retail store, seeing as he didn’t speak the home language, he only spoke galactic basic.

"Oh that’s right. You won’t learn the language." she said dismissively. "I have work to do, Hammer."
